Tuesday- hot dogs with homemade chili

Wednesday- italian chicken with garlic smashed potatoes and salad

Thursday- shredded beef tacos with homemade salsa and spanish rice

Friday- italian cream cheese and chicken

Another Freezer Cooking update...

I have chicken breasts baking in the oven, a beef chuck roast in the crockpot (that will become shredded beef and smells amazing), and red beans soaking. The progress is happening. :)

Freezer Cooking Day update.

Sorry about the delayed posting, but between the cooking and a teething baby that was hindering some of my cooking plans, things have been busy. :) So far, I have made homemade salsa, southwest rollups (freezing only a lunch size portion of those.), creamy chicken noodle soup (which we had for dinner), one bag of shredded chicken, a dozen cranberry wheat muffins, homemade granola and granola bars.
Still to go:
3 batches of pumpkin pancakes
4 dozen double chocolate cookies (not sure if I will make them all and freeze them or just freeze the dough)
homemade strawberry poptarts
homemade hot dog buns
homemade personal pizza pockets
shredded beef from a roast
hot chocolate mix
2 pounds of dried pinto beans
1 pound of dried red kidney beans

This was my very first freezer cooking day so I purposefully decided not to attempt a whole lot of entrees this month to see how it went. And we actually needed a lot of the breakfast foods so that is why there are so many of them. With a two year old and a six month old, I am actually having to space my cooking out across several days. I can keep my toddler entertained but the baby is teething and she wasn't having any part of my cooking and not tending to her. :) We have enjoyed eating some of the things that I have already made and I love that my freezer is holding several options for other things. I have taken several pictures and will probably post them at the end once everthing is finished.

Meal plan Monday

Monday- southwest rollups
Tuesday- creamy chicken noodle soup and homemade rolls
Wednesday- soft tacos and tortilla chips with homemade salsa (maybe homemade spanish rice)
Thursday- sloppy joes
Friday- baked chicken breasts and carrots and mashed potatoes
Saturday- something with shredded chicken

Upcoming Freezer cooking/ Baking Day

Tomorrow and Wednesday, I will be participating in a Freezer Cooking Day hosted by Life as Mom.com and Moneysavingmom.com. http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=187483199082&index=1
The idea behind a day like this is so stock your freezer with lots of yummy and healthy (okay, sometimes not so healthy in the case of baking) meals and snacks for the month. I will post my cooking plan tomorrow. Look forward to lots of pictures. :)

Berenstain Bears books give away.

My two year old and six month old both love to be read to. We read together every night at bedtime but also at lots of points through out the day. My husband and I are both book worms so we are hoping to share our love of reading with our kids. I am always on the lookout for good books to get for the kids. There is a Berenstain Bears give away going on right now with four of the newest books. Take a look: http://afrugalfriend.blogspot.com/2009/11/berenstain-bears-giveaway.html

NOW 32 CD give away

I don't know about you but I enjoy having music on while I clean house and the NOW CD's are pretty good for that. Of course this CD would also make a great gift for a teenager on your list. Check out this site for a give away of the most recent NOW CD: http://contest-corner.blogspot.com/2009/11/holiday-gift-guide-2009-now-thats-what.html

Apron give away.

I have been thinking lately that I would love to have an apron and I found the most beautiful ones on this site that is also currently hosting a give away: http://customapronsandmore.blogspot.com/2009/11/hostess-apron-giveaway.html

Felt food giveaway.

There is another wonderful giveaway going on over at Lady bug soup. A $12 felt food item is being offered. The felt food is so cute and so wonderful for imaginary play. I just got a small crate of felt fruit and vegetables the other day for my children and they love them. :) These little foods are so cute. Sippy straw cleaners giveaway!

I have a two year old who currently uses the sippy cups and a six month old that will soon be using them. They can be so difficult to clean (at least the straws can!) I am sure that I am not the only mommy in the world to have ever been frustrated by having to throw out a yucky, seemingly impossible to clean straw (and of course the cup is no good without the straw.) Finally, a stay-at-home has invented something to clean those straws and save those cups. Head on over to http://www.thriftynorthwestmom.com/2009/11/sippy-straw-cleaner-review-giveaway.html to win your straw cleaner. Good luck!

Win a hasbro game!

With the holiday season upon us, who isn't searching for perhaps one more great gift? Or perhaps some are still searching for all of their gifts. :) A board game always makes a wonderful gift. Head on over to the "Catch a drift" blog at http://hail2thesnowqueen.blogspot.com/2009/11/hasbro-games-review-and-giveaway.html to win "The game of things". This would be so much fun to sit around and play during the holidays.

Meal plan Monday

Monday- taco salad and santa fe rice
Tuesday- hot dogs with homemade chili and homemade fries (today I found a recipe for homemade hot dog buns that I think I will try soon)
Wednesday- taco ring and corn
Thursday- crockpot barbeque chicken, mashed sweet potatoes, and green beans
Friday- pulled pork sandwiches and cole slaw
Saturday- my husband is asking for spaghetti again, it is one of his favorites so we may do that Saturday night

Kroger and more mega sale

All of our groceries tonight were $56. Again no pictures but we were able to get lots of meat, including chicken breasts and a pork roast, lots of fresh fruit and veggies, and lots of mega sale items. My twenty mega sale items (crackers, rice, mashed potatoe boxes, pancake mix, texas toast, salad dressing, yogurt, canned fruit and a few others) were less than $3 for all twenty items! My total before the coupons and discounts was $108. Not a bad trip with 50% savings.

CVS trip.

No picture today...so busy. I got $40 worth of items for $6 tonight and I got $13 in ECB's back and will be submitting for a $5 rebate. I was so sad, my husband has been wanting a nedi pot for the longest time and they were on sale and I had a coupon (the two reasons he doesn't already have one, we were waiting for a sale and a coupon!) but they were all gone. We got the sinus rinse kit but it won't be the same. I also got cough medicine and nasal spray. (I like to stock up when it isn't costing hardly anything, we will surely use it this winter). I got two glade scented oil candle refill packs and two glade candle holders, that will be Christmas gifts. So two Christmas gifts and lots of cold and sinus treatment for very little money. (The cold stuff was $1 out of pocket for it all and the other money out of pocket for the candles I get back from the rebate, so it was a good trip.)

Great deal on Pledge at Target

Today when I went to Target to fill Alan's medication (which I got a $10 giftcard for since he was a new prescription) I also grabbed three pledge muti-surface cleaners. They were on sale for $3.49 each and if you bought three then you got a $5 giftcard. (very excited about my $15 in giftcards that I got today!!) I had three $1 off coupons. My total for all three was $7.50 and I got the $5 giftcard back. I am also submitting a rebate for $5. A money maker of $3.50 and I love this cleaning product.

Meal plan Monday...one day late

Sorry that I haven't been posting for the past couple of days. My two year old is sick right now and yesterday we finally went to the doctor and learned that he has a sinus infection (the third one this year). Sick babies don't leave much time for posting on blogs. :)
Monday- tacos
Tuesday- spaghetti and texas toast
Wednesday- homemade potato soup
Thursday- homemade chili and cornbread
Friday- dinner with family at the in-laws
Saturday- a special Halloween supper (leaning towards pumpkin sloppy joes right now)

Walgreens trip.

This was a very late in the week Walgreens trip. My babies have both been sick all week so we've been staying home. I had register rewards that were expiring on Sunday though so I made it out to take advantage of this week's deals tonight. This is $46 worth of stuff all for $7 out of pocket (And that was for the toilet paper which was on sale and I had a coupon for making it $2.99 each, a pretty good deal). I got back $19 in RR to spend this week or next week. Not a bad shopping trip. I got the hydrogen preoxide and baking soda to see if I can get our white tub sparkling clean to look better when realtors are showing our house. I read that it would work so here is hoping that it does. :)

$85 for a lot of groceries!

Today we stocked up on canned goods, I got 12 cans of diced tomatoes/tomatoe sauce, 9 cans of beans, and 6 cans of evaporated milk...lots of fresh produce and meat (not pictured), even bottled water and baby wipes. I also got $5 back in catalinas so my total was actually $80 and it should have been $160. It's nice when you can get groceries for an even better deal than 50% off but I'll take half off groceries any day. We got a ton for our money so I was pretty happy and $85 is the highest that we ever like to pay...I love those $40 grocery weeks but they can't all be that. :)

Menu plan Monday

Monday- chicken sandwiches and steamed veggies
Tuesday- meatloaf, mashed potatoes, and macaroni and cheese
Wednesday- homemade pizza with sausage and pepperoni and salad
Thursday- enchilada casserole and salad
Friday- cowboy supper and homemade seasoned potatoe wedges
Saturday- halloween party with family (chili and cornbread, yummy!)

Thursday, October 15, 2009

This Sunday's coupons.

There will be two inserts in this Sunday's newspaper. One smart source and one red plum. Looks like there may be a few good ones.

$42 worth of groceries for $15.

This was a 58% savings, so a pretty good trip. I had lots of good coupons and $4.50 in catalinas and I am getting $2.09 back in a rebate. (I am going to make some homemade pumpkin and chocolate chip muffins today or tomorrow and I actually used the catalinas to get the canned pumpkin and chocolate chips.) We had a pretty crazy grocery trip, it was raining so I had to try to keep the babies dry. I had to go though because my son only had three diapers left! I hated to go out in the rain for just the diapers so that is why I went through my coupons and grabbed a few other items too. When we got to the checkout, we had to wait for 15 minutes...there were only two registers open. So this trip definitely counted as an adventure!

Monday- fellowship meal at church to hear speaker

Tuesday- dinner out for anniversary (which is Wendesday :))

Saturday- some sort of pasta with things in pantry

Lots of oatmeal and peanut butter

We went to Walgreens today after church and I got 8 jars of skippy peanut butter and 4 boxes of quaker oatmeal. The peanut butter was on sale for $1.66 a jar and I had 8 75cent off coupons. That is 91 cents a jar. :) And I got $8 in RR for next week. The oatmeal was on sale for $2.50 each and I had $1.25/2 coupons (2 of them). That is $1.87 per box and I got $5 in RR for next week. So $13 total to use for next week. I ended up spending $2.42 OOP so I was pretty pleased. Some of the peanut butter is going into gift baskets that I am working on right now. I had another Walgreen deal yesterday. I got 6 Dove shampoo and conditioners and 2 Dove deodorants and got $10 in RR (which I spent today). Between the two trips, lots of food and toiletry items for very little OOP.

A donation is just a click away.

While working on clipping and organizing my coupons from this past weekends inserts I found a project that I'd like to share with everyone. Welch's is working to feed Americans who are hungry. So many people in this country don't have enough to eat and it is wonderful to see a company trying to do something to help with this. Welch's will be donating money (a minimum of $100,000 so that is a lot of full bellies!) and a maximum of 1 million 8 ounce glasses of their 100% grape juice (which is a full serving of fruit.) Just go to www.welchs.com/harvest and click the donate now button. Your click will ensure that one glass of juice gets donated. Such a great goal, there is no reason that they shouldn't be able to reach their goal of 1 million. Please go and visit their website.

$204.09 worth of groceries for $110.63

No picture tonight because we are about to make and eat dinner and are in kind of a hurry. We had a little more than 50% savings. (I am sending in a rebate to get $3.49 back on one item and I also got back a $4 catalina to use next week. So my "real" total was $103.14.) We got a ton of stuff! (We had 77 items in all so I do mean a ton.) We had lots of food of course. (lots of yummy fresh fruit and veggies: pears, apples, bananas, spinach, 2 salad bags). We got a lot of non-food items also: 2 things of laundry detergent, 2 packages of huggies diapers, 2 boxes of ziplock freezer bags, toilet paper. Kroger is having a mega freezer sales right now so we were able to get really good deals on freezer items. I got 2 bags of tyson chicken for $7.98 which is the price of one bag usually. We were very pleased with this week's sale and per our usual routine since I spent more today than our usual we will use a lot of stockpile items in next week's meal plan and mostly buy fresh ingredients to keep our total down.

Menu plan Monday

Monday- hearty beef penne with salad
Tuesday- sloppy joes with homemade french fries (one of my toddler's favorite meals!)
Wednesday- taco ring, spanish rice, and corn
Thursday- little pizzas (homemade pizzas on english muffins) with salad
Friday- tortelini with alredo sauce and breadsticks
Saturday- beef stroganoff with steamed vegetables

Sunday, October 4, 2009

Another good CVS trip

All of these items with no sale would have cost $56.02 (not including tax). I got them all for $2.15. I had a $5 off $25 purchase coupon, $15 in manufactorer coupons, and $14.50 in ECB's, and of course there were sales on everything. (Side note: you should definitely get an extra care card if you haven't already. $4.50 of my ECB's were my quarterly reward for shopping at CVS based on my summer spendings.) I think $2.15 for 3 things of body wash, 2 bars of soap, 2 clinical strength deodorants, 1 lip balm (which was free with the coupon!), and 1 thing of nail polish is pretty good. :) Best of all, I have $15 of ECB's to use next week.

A wonderful week at Walgreens

I only had $9 in register rewards to use at Walgreens this week, which is a shame because there are a ton of great RR deals in the ad! I spent $10.10 for the $27.53 worth of items here but I don't mind that to much because I have $16 in register rewards to use now. I am actually thinking of a second WAGS trip this week to take advantage of the deals. My total could have been better but my husband loves these hershey miniatures and so I picked those up. I was pretty please though. Between WAGS and CVS, I got $66 worth of stuff and spent $15 out of pocket and I have $26 that I got back to use on future trips. So really it was like being paid to shop. :)

A Great CVS trip

I spent $5.80 out of pocket for $37.41 worth of items. We don't have a dishwasher so dishwashing liquid for free is always a good thing. I love the Tide stain remover tablets...they work wonders. And my sister and I are working on gift baskets for several people right now and I thought that the bounce bars would be nice for that. I got back $10 in ECB's to use next week.

There will be 3 inserts in the Sunday paper this weekend and it looks like there will be some pretty good ones.

Wednesday, September 23, 2009

A Walmart run

My total was $6.59 for $26 worth of items. I had a coupon for a free Glade lasting impressions kit (which I got out of a scented oil refill that I also had gotten with a free coupon!), I had 3 $3/1 Q for the Sara Lee meat so those were 98 cents each, I had 2 $1.60/1 nature valley nut clusters so those ended up being 68 cents each, and I had $1/2 ronzoni pasta so those were 64 cents each. I always try to limit the number of stores that we visit per week but we were going to get keys made (for our new house that we closed on yesterday :) ) and so I got these coupons out to make good use of the time. We actually ended up forgetting the keys during the check so we are going to have to get keys made again. That is the kind of thing that happens with two babies under age two at a register checking out!

Shredded Kraft cheese for 99 cents a bag!!!

Kroger is having another mega sale right now and if you buy 10 participating items, you can get Kraft shredded cheese for 99 cents each. You can also get the sandwich slices and blocks with this deal. You don't have to buy all cheese but we use cheese in lots of our recipes so I went ahead and got 10 bags! Less than $10 and the regular price would have been more like $40.

75% savings at Target

The total before coupons was $$32.55 but my out of pocket amount was $8.87.
The razors were on sale for $3.99 and I had 3 $3 off 1 coupons. (99 cents for a 4 pack of razors is a good deal!). The shaving cream was on sale for $1.89 and I had two $1/1 Q. (yet again, 89 cents is a good deal and my stockpile that I had for shaving cream has been almost exhausted.) The poptarts were on sale for $2 each and I had one $1/2 target Q and $1/2 manufacturer Q so it made them $1 each. There are 55 cent/1 Q's that would have made it 10 cents cheaper but I didn't have two of them. And the movie is for our little boy for Christmas. It should have been $5 but I had a $2 coupon so I got it for $3. We got a lot for our money. :)

A 5 cent purchase.

We are visiting family out of town and got here and found out (unfortunately during a pooey diaper change!) that we had forgotten to bring wipes with us. We ran to Kroger where they had the wipes on sale for $2.61. I had a 50 cent coupon that doubled. I had another coupon for 35 cents off dial soap which doubled to 70 cents and it is 10 for $10 right now so I grabbed that. I paid with $2 in catalinas that had printed out for me last week at the store for getting pilsbury biscuits. It brought my total to 5 cents...not a bad deal. It made forgetting the wipes no problem at all.

Jump on the band wagon!

If you love coupons and you love getting to try free samples, there are several websites that you should check out.

Vocalpoint- www.vocalpoint.com
This site is a great site for getting coupons. I am getting ready to try a full size secret clinical strength deodorant for free and the only thing that I have to do afterward is write a short comment about it on their site and maybe fill out a survey. This website is really nice anyhow, lots of good articles and fun surveys.

She speaks- www.shespeaks.com
Another great site for coupons and samples and you actually get to have influence over what is made and sold!

Pssst...- www.pssst.generalmills.com
This one will let you try products before they release them and give you coupons to give to your family and friends.

All of these sites ask that you share your opinions with the people that you know. You should never sign up on one of these sites just to get free items without committing to do your part to tell others about the products. There are lots of other sites like this out there but these are all sites that I am actually a member at. I would love comments from anyone who knows of any other great sites like these.

I had a $2.50 manufactorers coupon for the Chef Michael's cans ,which was B2G2 (buy two get two) and I used a Target coupon for B2G2 which stacked gave me those four cans free. My dad and sister both have dogs so this free food is going to those pooches. :)

50% savings at Kroger

$170 worth of groceries for $86. Not pictured: 8 rolls of paper towels, 2 pounds of hamburger, and one package of chicken breasts. I received $2 in catalinas for my next trip from Pilsbury. Kroger is having a mega sale with kraft and nabisco products right now so a lot of the items that I purchased were their products. I had coupons for just about every item except for the meat and fresh produce. It was a good trip!

Meal plan Monday

Monday- chicken caesar salads, crusty french bread, and cantaloupe

Tuesday- spicy chicken skillet and steamed veggies

Wednesday- pigs in blankets, macaroni and cheese, and corn

Thursday- homemade chili and biscuits

Friday- tacos and spanish rice

Saturday- hamburger soup and crescent rolls
